Deconstructing colonialism and race, learning about our ethnic heritage (in an anti-racist way), and embracing anti-racism are things that we all need to do when going through a Mormon faith transition.
For a list of resources pertaining to racism in Mormon history, check out the Racism, Colonialism, and Ethnicity tab of my Mormon History Resource spreadsheet.
You can also check out my Racism playlist on YouTube, which contains various episodes pertaining to racism by ex-Mormon vlog and podcast creators.
If you’re looking for a book to start with, I recommend Mormonism and White Supremacy: American Religion and the Problem of Racial Innocence, by Joanna Brooks. This book is important and helpful not only because it will make you aware of some shocking history you’ve probably never heard before but also because it addresses harmful patterns that historical events have embedded in white American religion and in each of us.
