Ethics and Philosophy

Much like Church history, studying ethics and philosophy can be very helpful in reconstructing a worldview and ethical system. However, unlike Mormonism, philosophy does not prescribe answers or necessarily aim to create a sense of meaning. Be mindful of your emotions and mental health as you study, and go elsewhere for emotional wellness and spirituality when you need to. Don’t expect to find the certainty you might have felt when you were a believer.

For relatively few videos about key ethical and philosophical issues, check out my Philosophical Foundations YouTube playlist.

For a longer list of videos addressing issues that ex-Mormons often want to explore, check out my Ethics and Philosophy playlist.

For a quick introduction to general philosophy, I recommend Crash Course Philosophy as a starting point.

For a lighter way to introduce yourself to ethics and moral philosophy, the sit-com The Good Place provides accessible insights in a fun package. The series also deals with death, so if you’re facing your own mortality or going through an existential crisis, then working through it along with the characters may be helpful.
